General Discussion / Re: New potential player!
« on: October 21, 2016, 11:24:58 pm »
As Mig mentioned before the fluff is all over the net and stats can be found both in the rulebook or sometimes on norsgard facebook.

The story is about survival, control and honor.
Order of the Ram are Noble paladins who uphold a watch over Isbran, protecting its denizens by slaying Mork Barbarians and watching if Outregard isn't coming back with vengence. They have very little options when it comes to unit customization but their mage is very versitile and they can have drills that are warband wide. Due to their small numbers they need a lot of tactical thinking to keep the upper hand over the enemy.

Mork are the cave and swamp dwelling barbarians who battle for survival against the templars and everything else. Think about the bear tribe from the 13th Warrior. They worship demons to enchance their abilities and all special units are female only (which is about to change with the new demon infused unit preview apparently). They have the best advantage which is their numbers. They strive on wolf pack tactics and single unit elimination as having more guys is big in Norsgard. Their units have plenty of options but they lack a common tactic.

Alliance of the bat is an alliance of a dying dwarves and young wulfkin tribes to survive the bloody battles that are taking place on their territories. Its basicly a dream team scenario. Big agile wulfkin armed with dwarven weaponry and trained by the longbeards in return for extending dwarven legacy. They have lots of shooting which is all about weakening the enemy with guns and killing them with wulfkin. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that its a faction that has lots of control over where do they deliver the pain and they are in the middle when it comes to the number of units they can field.

Egir tribe are seamen (and women) who pride themselves on being monster hunters without fear. We only have rules for 3 units but they have a sort of alpha strike feel to them but they use ranged units to deliver finishing blows

Outregard is an another alliance of undead elves and other Wulfkin that decided to ally themselves with the undead. As I write this they are mere weeks from getting their final rules but they can mess with magic cast by enemy wizards. They also share a wulfkin commander with the Alliance of the bat since they both have wulfkins in their armies. They don't lack for choices despite being a new faction.

For the 6th faction its well muddy. There are two possible choices.
Spider wood elves called the Eddrae that are mentioned as a faction Scarath the Traitoress can work for along with the Alliance and the Horde.
The Temple of the storms which consist of sexy valkyries that have been shunned by their former allies for their secretive and shady conduct. There is some art featuring them and two minitarues from older days of Norsgard were produced as well. Their faction however was very much inspired by the art of Genzoman and while I was very excited for miniatures featuring his art it is clear that Norsgard isn't going into that direction anymore.

Next kickstarter is going to feature True orc paladins of the order of the ram and the army of doom. They are both sort of sectorial forces within two initial factions Order of the Ram and Tribe of Mork.  Basicly the big boys in shiny plates and holy seals came to support  the more wildcards from scarlet watch and suddently the Mork unleash demons. Also Outregard gets its cool Elven witch shifting the focus from wulfkin to elves a bit. There might also be new units for the Egir and Alliance but I dont think Eddrae or Temple will be making an appearance.

Questions and Answers / Spells and death by spells
« on: May 17, 2016, 01:47:47 am »
Hello

I've been dabbling more and more into the offensive capabilities of battlewizards so here is my question. From what I remember winter fury was a damaging watch spell that was powerful but couldn't kill the target as it didn't provoke a roll on the damage table. As of now this is not  the case in the rulebook.

The game of death still retains the damage table roll restriction in its ruling.

So is it a typo or did scarlet watch just got a reliable Activation phase finisher?

My latest orc. The Ravn Skaller, was an interesting model. He had lots of jewlery compared to his comrades and an animal companion. I choose to make him more of a fashionista with the Scarlet watch or maybe a collector of anything shiny.

There is indeed a subtle hint of a sixth faction of spider elves in the rulebook. The mercenary Banshee is able to join their forces and there is also temple of the storms which  prepares to join the fight as the valkyries realize that there are no allies that stand with the Temple at the moment.

What I can tell you about the temple is what I read from story previews.
They were leaders of an ancient alliance that protected Isbran from various threats outside or within their sphere of influence. They have close ties to the orcs as both factions bear arms to defend Isbran yet one might see them as enteirly different from the male order of green skinned paladins. They wear highly decorative equipment, are experts in diplomacy, assassination, ancient knowledge and probably bear the blessing of both immortality and divine power. There are no known male members of the Temple of the storms. While being champions of order they represent the darker  side of civilization by using other races in achiving their goals, and killing those that threaten their plans.

I finally made a huge leap in my skin technique using a newly learned wet pallet  for mixing paints during long periods of time. Im very happy with the result although the hair which used a NMM gold technique should have been stopped after applying the second layer, Sepia ink and 5th layer of heavy gold destroyed the softnes and now the hair looks like a tangled mess with a lot of contrast. Overall it could've been better but I'm still proud of my twin lionesses as opposed to the skin burned veil banshee prototype. Soon I will finish my  Mistress of the hunt and return to the Ravyn Skaller for the time of battle is close at hand.

Ok this one was a huge supprise. I was so excited to paint Nifl Guard and crimson champion that I totally disregarded him and his little hoody. The scout is a superb model with a lot of details and probably one of the best faces He might become my best looking model if I don't come up with an amazing paint scheme for the Ravyn Skaler.

Pros:
+Excellent wavy robe
+Small and light equipment shows off orc's massive stature
+Lots of acessories on the belt
+great shoes
+fantastic face

Cons
- Sword a bit on the short side compared to crimson champions one-handed weapon

I'm planning to start fighting on Isbranian soil in two weeks so there is a lot of painting to be done

Finally exams are over and I am free to pursue painting Norsgard and hopefully playing it when most of it will be painted. I would post some models sooner but all of the bits went missing and the amount of cleaning I had to do find them took literrary a whole week so lets start from the starter box.

Our beutiful veil banshee being painted on in one crazy night among friends, she looks a bit off and will probably stay this way. Overall a great model  with a well made cloak that suits her much better than Varkof's. Unfortunatly I am still experimenting with doing sexy skin but  it always backfires into 3rd degree burns which is especially painful when it comes to Norsgard warrior women. There is only one notable flaw that the sculpt has in my opinion: namely no ABS. While arms do have some small biceps that are hard to flesh out unfortunatly, I was really hungry for some solid, well formed abdoment. I think the new commander that PaweĊ‚ previewed will satisfy my lust for female muscles in my toy solider collection.

And yes the horde is finally assembled. Only 6 more horde models to go.
